A standard replacement is usually one to two days on site. The site is cleaned and the waste removed before the crew leaves, which is the part homeowners mention most often afterwards.
Every replacement is quoted on site, itemised line by line, and the quoted figure is the figure invoiced.
Roof Replacement Cost & Pricing For Your Calgary Home
Roof replacement at Maple starts at $5,800. That figure is a complete replacement on a single storey home with about 1,000 square feet of roof area, standard architectural shingles, one layer torn off, straightforward access and a simple roof shape.
Most homes cost more than the starting figure. These are the things that move it:
- Roof area and shape. Valleys, dormers, skylights and chimneys add labour and flashing.
- Pitch and number of storeys. A steep or high roof needs more safety setup and slower work.
- Layers to remove. Two layers of old shingles doubles the tear off and the disposal.
- Shingle grade. Standard architectural, or Class 4 impact resistant, which is rated for hail and costs more.
- What is found underneath. Rotten decking is replaced before the new roof goes on, quoted as its own line.
- Ventilation and flashing. Vents, valley metal, drip edge and eaves protection are itemised, not folded into one number.

Class 4 impact resistant shingles
Calgary sits in the hail belt, and the shingle grade is what decides whether a storm damages a roof or passes over it. Class 4 is the highest impact rating under UL2218, the standard used to test shingles against hail.
Two reasons homeowners here choose it:
- It is built to take hail that would damage a standard shingle.
- Many Alberta insurers reduce the premium or offer a rebate on a Class 4 roof. What is offered depends on the insurer, and we will tell you what yours offers before you decide.
Class 4 appears as an option on every replacement quote, with the cost difference shown next to the standard option.
Replacing a wood shake roof
Some insurers no longer renew a policy on a home with a wood shake roof, because of the fire risk. If that has happened to you, a conversion to asphalt shingle is the fix.
What the conversion changes:
- Weather protection. Asphalt shingle takes Calgary hail, wind and freeze thaw better than aged cedar, which splits, curls and lifts.
- How long it lasts. A shake roof that has started to fail keeps needing repairs. A new asphalt roof resets the clock.
- Curb appeal. A converted roof changes the front of a house more visibly than almost any other exterior job.
It is a longer job than a straight reroof. The shakes and the strapping underneath both come off, and the deck is rebuilt before the new roof goes on. We quote the conversion as its own line, so the difference against a standard replacement is visible rather than buried.
