Hail Damage Inspections
Calgary sits in the hail belt, and hail damage is not always visible from the ground. Bruising on a shingle can look like nothing from a driveway while the mat underneath has already failed, and the first obvious sign is often a leak two seasons later.
Our hail inspections are done by a HAAG Certified Roofing Inspector. HAAG is the certification insurance adjusters themselves work to, so the damage is assessed and written up in the terms your insurer assesses against rather than in general ones.
An inspection covers the roof surface, the vents, the soft metals, the eavestroughs and the siding, because hail rarely hits only the roof.
Hail Damage Roof Repair Cost & Pricing
Where a claim is approved, the insurer sets the scope and the payout and the homeowner pays the deductible. Our part is to document the damage accurately enough that the approved scope reflects what is actually damaged, rather than what is visible from the ground.
Where a claim is declined, or where the damage did not come from a storm, the work is quoted the same way as any replacement: on site, itemised line by line, and the figure quoted is the figure invoiced.
Class 4 and the next storm
A hail claim replaces the roof you had. Class 4 impact resistant shingles are the option to replace it with something rated to survive the next storm, and many Alberta insurers reduce the premium on a roof built with them.
Whether that is worth the difference depends on your insurer and your roof, and we will price both options on the same quote
What insurance covers, and what it does not
Worth knowing before filing:
- Storm damage is usually covered, and usually only the damaged part rather than the whole roof.
- A roof that is simply worn out is not. Insurers treat that as wear and tear, and it falls to the homeowner.
- There is normally a deadline to file. If a repair is delayed and further damage follows, the later damage may not be covered.
If it is not clear which of these applies, we will inspect the roof and say so before you contact your insurer.
How a hail claim runs
One contractor handles the claim from the first inspection through to the final invoice, so you are not coordinating between an inspector, an adjuster and a roofer.
- Inspection. We inspect the roof, the metals and the siding, and document what we find.
- You file the claim with your insurer, using that documentation.
- The adjuster reviews it. Our report is written to the same standard the adjuster works to, which is what a HAAG certification is for.
- Scope and payout are set by the insurer.
- The work is scheduled and completed, with the site cleaned before the crew leaves.
- Final invoice, matching the approved scope.
